Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to join our team at Seaspan Ferries Corporation. This is a full-time, permanent position that requires a strong background in employee relations, investigations, and conflict resolution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations into allegations of misconduct or wrongdoing, ensuring procedural fairness and timeliness.
  • Provide conflict resolution services to resolve workplace concerns, using options discussion, facilitation, and shuttle diplomacy as needed.
  • Partner with external counsel on complex investigations and provide investigation case and issue trend data to HRBP teams and the executive team.
  • Drive the evolution and improvement of the framework for managing investigations and claims, conducting and reporting employee relations investigations.
  • Conduct case management for ER cases and grievances, ensuring timely and thorough completion.
  • Identify areas for compliance education and training for managers and business managers, partnering with COEs to develop and deliver training as needed.
  • Contribute to various HR projects and guide project teams in adhering to data and process compliance.
  • Assist in the development, rollout, interpretation, and updating of ER processes and programs for the global organization.
  • Coach and influence HR Business Partners on interventions required for people, managers, and teams to prevent employee relations risks.
  • Help promote knowledge, understanding, and compliance regarding company policy and relevant employment laws through coaching, presentations, and training.
  • Testify and provide evidence regarding investigations in legal procedures, including arbitration and human rights tribunal hearings.
Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in a related discipline, such as industrial relations, employee relations, law, human resources, or investigations.
  • 10-15 years of recent experience working in a complex unionized organization conducting workplace investigations.
  • Experience as a labour and employment lawyer and/or an HR and Labour Relations practitioner is preferred.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, with the ability to work with all parties in a dispute and manage emotions.
  • Strong understanding of systemic barriers related to workplace investigations, including knowledge of all forms of racism and discrimination.
  • Formidable ability to conduct well-reasoned, unbiased research and provide user-friendly information and data reports.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with various levels of staff.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and cultivate productive working relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex competing interests and concurrent investigations.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, integrity, discretion, and political acumen.
  • Knowledge of employment and related legislation, equity principles, contractual obligations, and sound human resource practices.

The estimated salary for this position is $121,500 - $148,500, depending on the successful candidate's experience and position location. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
