Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. The successful candidate will provide support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and other exceptional needs
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and special programs to enhance student learning
  • Implement behavior modification and behavior management strategies to promote positive student behavior
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Provide physical support, including lifting, toileting, and pool duties, as required
Requirements
  • Diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
  • Strong knowledge of the ADHD brain and its impacts on processing information and emotional regulation
  • Experience developing and implementing self-regulation and behavior management strategies
Preferred Qualifications
  • French language skills
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • DSW/CYW or equivalent
