About the Opportunity

As a Social Worker in our Schools Plus Initiative, you will provide services directly in the school community environment within designated schools. You will be a member of a school-based multidisciplinary team and participate in the planning, development, provision, and evaluation of mental health services for the assigned population in designated school settings.

The service will focus on early identification and intervention of mental health disorders for children and adolescents within the school population. You will act as a liaison between the client, school, and mental health services.

About You
  • You have a Master's degree in Social Work and are registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers or eligible to be registered.
  • You have a minimum of two years' experience providing mental health services to preschoolers, children and adolescents within a mental health setting.
  • You have knowledge of the DSM-IV-5 and the ability to use it to screen for, assess and conceptualize common childhood mental health disorders.
  • You have demonstrated diagnostic experience completing mental health assessments and implementing evidence-based treatment plans for children and adolescents.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge and practice of principles of behavior management, cognitive behavior therapy, family and systems-based work, group therapy and other evidence-based practices.
  • You have the ability to screen for concurrent mental health disorders.
  • You have knowledge of the impact of substance use on other mental health disorders and vice versa.
  • You have demonstrated experience in crisis and suicide risk assessment and intervention.
  • You have demonstrated ability to assess family functioning and implement family-based interventions for complex cases.
  • You have exemplary ability to coordinate the development of effective linkages with other health, justice, education, social service and community agencies as needed.
  • You have demonstrated leadership skills in working collaboratively and cooperatively with other professionals.
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred.

Hours
  • This is a permanent part-time position with 37.5 hours bi-weekly.
Compensation and Incentives

The hourly rate for this position is $49.04.
