Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Primary Health Care Nursing Practitioner Consultant offers specialized guidance and strategic recommendations to the Chief Nursing Officer and Assistant Deputy Minister Operations regarding the design, delivery, and utilization of primary health care services within health centers. Through effective planning, implementation, and evaluation, the incumbent ensures that primary health care services are efficiently designed and delivered to meet the needs of the Nunavummiut population.
Key Responsibilities Include:- Enhancing clinical nursing service excellence by developing, monitoring, and evaluating the clinical roles and competencies for Primary Health Care nursing, as well as the policies and decision-making tools that support nursing staff in health centers;
- Creating and executing the territorial community Nurse Practitioner Program;
- Conducting health surveillance and preventive initiatives aimed at improving community health;
- Maintaining clinical expertise within the Nurse Practitioner scope through practical rotations in health centers;
- Providing specialized knowledge of primary health care nursing practices in Nunavut;
- Responding to unexpected increases in demand at community health centers as part of the rapid deployment nursing team.
The qualifications required for this role typically include a Nurse Practitioner (NP) certificate along with a minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner. Candidates must be eligible for registration as an NP with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN). Experience in northern or rural/remote settings is considered advantageous.
This position is classified as Highly Sensitive, necessitating a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
COVID-19 vaccination is a mandatory requirement for employment. Proof of vaccination must be submitted with the application.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants may submit their resumes in any of the official languages. Proficiency in multiple official languages is an asset. Familiarity with Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience in a northern cross-cultural environment are also valued.

For full-time, permanent nursing positions, recruitment bonuses may include financial incentives at various milestones of service. Additional monthly retention bonuses may also apply.
