Position Overview: The role involves leading and managing the CISC’s government relations, marketing, and communications teams in a strategic and proactive manner. The objective is to drive membership growth, enhance revenue from products and services, increase member satisfaction, strengthen government advocacy, and expand the market share of steel in Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Management of the Department- Collaborates with the President and CEO to oversee the organization, including the formulation and implementation of the CISC Vision, Strategic Plan, and associated Business Plans.
- Adopts an entrepreneurial mindset in crafting, directing, and executing departmental Business Plans (e.g., Marketing, Communication, Government Relations/Advocacy).
- Designs and implements tailored marketing and business strategies for all products and services, ensuring alignment with budgetary and strategic objectives.
- Partners with the President and CEO to position CISC as a respected and influential voice in governmental discussions at all levels across Canada.
- Works alongside the President and CEO and fellow directors to develop and manage budgets that align with the organization’s strategic goals.
- Monitors financial performance and expenses across service lines.
- Ensures timely and budget-compliant completion of projects and initiatives.
- Establishes and maintains Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all areas of responsibility.
- Facilitates effective communication with staff, regions, members, stakeholders, and the general public.
- Upholds the standards of excellence and reputation of CISC.
- Ensures compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Oversees the activities of each relevant department.
- Mentors and supervises direct reports and subcontractors to ensure high performance and quality standards.
- Conducts annual performance reviews in accordance with CISC guidelines.
- Promotes collaboration among departments.
- Provides necessary training to all CISC staff.
- Facilitates continuous education opportunities aligned with organizational and departmental objectives.
- Prepares and delivers presentations as required.
- Fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
- Enhances member and associate value and satisfaction.
- Collaborates with the President and CEO and fellow directors to manage and report to the CISC Board of Directors.
- Enhances and manages the CISC brand.
- Promotes the use of steel in construction projects nationwide, contributing to increased market share for members.
- Markets all products and services to the membership base.
- Oversees the production of the Annual Report.
- Manages the organization’s website.
- Develops marketing materials.
- Provides marketing support for regional and business initiatives.
- Aligns National and Regional Marketing Plans.
- Creates and disseminates case studies.
- Conducts research and analysis.
- Oversees graphics and video production for all departments.
- Manages the CISC print magazine (Advantage Steel) and monthly email communications.
- Coordinates quarterly communications for national members and associates.
- Prepares government relations and press materials.
- Updates media platforms for timely communication.
- Oversees social media strategies.
- Manages the preparation and execution of steel-related articles.
- Ensures effective internal communications to keep CISC staff informed and aligned.
- Collaborates with the President and CEO to build internal government relations and advocacy capabilities, coordinating with external consultants as needed.
- Engages members and volunteers to support advocacy efforts.
- Develops communication and marketing materials that promote advocacy objectives for members and the industry.
- Performs all other assigned duties in a professional and supportive manner, adhering to the CISC Employee Handbook's policies and procedures.
- Degree, diploma, or recognized credentials in Advocacy, Marketing, and/or Communication.
- Experience in marketing products and/or services.
- Proven experience in managing communications.
- Familiarity with social media coordination for marketing purposes.
- Experience in government relations and advocacy.
- Supervisory or management experience is essential.
- Experience within an association is advantageous.
- While CISC employs individuals outside of Ontario, preference is given to candidates who can work in the Markham head office on designated days.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
- Proficiency in French is considered an asset.
