Job Title : Purchasing Director
The Purchasing Director will be responsible for managing a portfolio of commodities within the Procurement Department, overseeing essential procurement functions such as purchasing policies, supplier engagement, cost analysis, and strategic sourcing. A primary objective will be to identify cost-saving opportunities and eliminate waste throughout the procurement process.
Key Responsibilities
Strategically plan, organize, direct, and assess the procurement activities of the organization. Ensure adherence to procurement policies and facilitate ongoing enhancements to procedures, documentation, and systems. Develop and implement sourcing strategies that align with global objectives, partnering with suppliers to achieve optimal pricing. Identify and cultivate relationships with key suppliers within designated categories. Lead discussions with suppliers to address escalated issues. Assess the cost and quality of products or services and propose innovative solutions. Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements or oversee the negotiation process. Drive value analysis/value engineering initiatives with suppliers to ensure the most cost-effective processes are utilized. Review and manage claims against suppliers. Support new business initiatives, product launches, and supplier/part development. Champion cost reduction and process enhancement initiatives. Recruit, train, and supervise procurement staff. Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.Qualifications
Post-secondary education in business administration, commerce, economics, materials management, or a related field. Preferred SCMP / Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) designation or equivalent. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and provide direction in a professional environment. Strong background in commodities, particularly in manufacturing processes related to powertrain. Knowledge of material indices and fluctuations, with a track record of successful negotiations.Desired Skills
Analyze purchasing trends from previous years to uncover opportunities and create data sets for negotiation. Detail-oriented with a strong aptitude for data analysis. Collaborate effectively within a team environment, including suppliers and internal stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for success. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and convey technical information to suppliers and engineers. Engage in continuous professional development to stay informed about new products and market trends, and to enhance purchasing tools and systems. High level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate, and instruct others in group settings. Negotiate and finalize contracts, resolve supplier disputes, and manage changes to agreements with existing suppliers.What Linamar Offers
