Job Title : Purchasing Director
The role entails leading a team responsible for various commodities within the Procurement Department, focusing on effective management of procurement functions. This includes establishing purchasing policies and procedures, managing supplier relationships, conducting quotations, developing strategies, negotiating terms, selecting suppliers, and addressing any arising issues. A significant emphasis will be placed on identifying cost-saving opportunities and minimizing waste.
Key Responsibilities
Strategically plan, organize, direct, and assess the purchasing operations of the organization. Ensure adherence to procurement policies and procedures while fostering continuous improvement of these frameworks. Oversee sourcing strategies to ensure global alignment. Collaborate with suitable suppliers to achieve optimal pricing. Identify and cultivate relationships with key suppliers within your designated categories. Facilitate supplier escalation discussions as necessary. Assess the cost and quality of goods or services, and propose innovative solutions. Negotiate or supervise the negotiation of contracts and pricing agreements. Lead Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives with suppliers to ensure the selection of the most cost-effective processes. Support internal teams as needed. Review and manage claims against suppliers. Assist in new business acquisitions, launches, and supplier/part development initiatives. Drive cost reduction and process enhancement initiatives. Participate in the recruitment, training, and development of team members. Undertake additional duties or projects as assigned.Qualifications
A degree in business administration, commerce, economics, materials management, or a related field. Preferred certifications include SCMP or Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) or equivalent. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and provide direction within a professional environment. Strong background in commodities, particularly in manufacturing processes related to powertrain. Familiarity with Material Indices and fluctuations, along with a successful track record in negotiations.Desired Attributes
Ability to analyze purchasing trends from previous years to identify opportunities and create data sets for negotiation. Detail-oriented with a comfort in data analytics. Collaborative mindset to work effectively within a team environment, including suppliers and internal plants. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for success. Capability to interpret engineering drawings and communicate technical information to suppliers and engineers. Commitment to continuous learning to stay informed about new products and market trends, and to enhance purchasing tools and systems. High level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate, and instruct others in group settings. Negotiate and establish contracts, resolve disputes with suppliers, and negotiate terms with new and existing suppliers.What Linamar Offers
