Job Title: Second Cook

About the Role:

The Second Cook is a key member of our culinary team, responsible for preparing high-quality food to order for guests in a timely and professional manner. This role requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook food to order, adhering to established guidelines and quality standards.
  • Ensure proper health and safety standards are maintained in the kitchen, including proper storage and cleaning procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chef de Partie and Sous Chefs to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Train and supervise junior staff members, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of food production, inventory, and waste management.
  • Participate in menu planning and development, ensuring dishes meet Legends' high standards.
  • Assist with daily food requisitions, ordering, and inventory management.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment and machinery are properly maintained and used safely.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, management, and guests to ensure seamless service.

Requirements:

  • Culinary Journeyman Red Seal Certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years cooking experience or 1 year as a Second Cook in a similar environment.
  • Previous experience in all areas of the kitchen, including suite food production, buffets, banquets, and catering.
  • Strong knowledge of food terminology, handling, and preparation.
  • Ability to take direction and adapt to changing scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions:

This role is based on-site at the Rogers Centre, requiring regular attendance and flexibility to work varied shifts. The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, and stooping, with specific vision requirements for close vision and adjusting focus.
