Job Summary

The University of British Columbia seeks an experienced and skilled professional to fill the role of Associate Head, Department of Emergency Medicine. This position requires a strong leader who can provide administrative and academic management, leadership, and strategic direction to the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement department-wide strategic plans to advance the Department of Emergency Medicine's programs and activities.
  • Refine and oversee policies and procedures related to clinical faculty appointment and reappointment.
  • Chair the Clinical Appointment, Reappointment and Promotion Committee (CARP) to ensure fair and transparent processes.
  • Engage with clinical faculty across the province to understand their challenges, priorities, and new opportunities.
  • Represent clinical faculty interests and priorities in the department and faculty, as needed.
  • Develop and foster new opportunities for DEM clinical faculty, including partnerships and collaborations.
  • Foster a culture of respect, equity, diversity, and inclusion among clinical faculty.
  • Participate in departmental leadership committees and other departmental activities, as needed.
Requirements
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to champion anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • Holds or is eligible to hold a clinical or academic faculty appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
  • Certified in Emergency Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians Canada.
  • Licensed by the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons.
  • Holds a hospital appointment as an emergency physician.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
