Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Associate Head, Department of Emergency Medicine. This is a strategic leadership position that requires a strong understanding of academic and administrative management, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement department-wide strategic plans to advance the Department of Emergency Medicine's programs and activities.
  • Develop, refine, and oversee policies and procedures related to clinical faculty appointment and reappointment.
  • Chair the Clinical Appointment, Reappointment and Promotion Committee (CARP) to ensure fair and transparent processes.
  • Engage with clinical faculty across the province to understand their challenges, priorities, and new opportunities.
  • Represent clinical faculty interests and priorities in the Department and in the Faculty of Medicine.
  • Develop and foster new opportunities for clinical faculty, including partnerships and collaborations.
  • Foster a culture of respect, equity, diversity, and inclusion among clinical faculty.
  • Participate in departmental leadership committees and other departmental initiatives.
  • Participate in internal and external departmental reviews.
Qualifications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to champion the principles of anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Holds or is eligible to hold a clinical or academic faculty appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
  • Certified in Emergency Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians Canada.
  • Licensed by the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons.
  • Holds a hospital appointment as an emergency physician.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
