Job Title: Medical Director, Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine

British Columbia Children's Hospital (BCCH) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Director to lead the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. As a key member of the hospital's leadership team, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical and operational leadership to the division, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, and promoting a culture of excellence and innovation.

About the Division

The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at BCCH is a leading acute care teaching facility, providing emergency medical services to children and youth throughout British Columbia. The division is staffed by a team of subspecialists in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, including 29 members of the Children's Hospital Emergency Physicians Associates (CHEPA), and another 19 Float Pool members who are trained in PEM or Emergency Medicine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and operational leadership to the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, including the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures
  • Promote a culture of excellence and innovation within the division, including the encouragement of research and education
  • Work closely with the Division Head for PEM, the Department Head of Pediatrics, and the CMO of BCCH to ensure effective communication and collaboration
  • Chair various leadership committees and work closely with the ED Nursing leadership team to ensure effective operational functioning
  • Collaborate with other divisions in the hospital to promote a culture of teamwork and collaboration
Requirements
  • Completed a subspecialty residency-training program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or have comparable qualifications
  • Eligible for a specialist license, as determined by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia
  • A minimum of five years of PEM clinical experience, with previous leadership experience an asset
  • Eligible for a Clinical Faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia
