Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Judicial Clerk/Senior Judicial Clerk. This role will provide administrative support to the court, ensuring the smooth operation of court proceedings and maintaining accurate records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the court, including organizing and managing administrative processes, maintaining court records, and operating the digital recording system.
  • Customer Service: Liaise with judiciary, lawyers, police, and the general public, providing assistance and explaining court documentation as needed.
  • Document Management: Review and file documents in accordance with the Alberta Rules of Court and various Provincial and Federal statutes.
  • Office Administration: Perform general office duties, including telephone, scanning, fax, and incoming mail.
  • Data Entry: Enter and process data, including civil and criminal court orders.
  • Justice of the Peace: Conduct administrative bail releases, explain terms of release to offenders in custody, and complete bail assignments.
  • Commissioner of Oaths: Conduct oaths and affirmations, and obtain the necessary designation.
  • Database Management: Manage various databases and programs, including the Civil and Sheriff Entry System (CASES) and the Justice On-Line Information Network (JOIN).
  • Conferencing Technology: Utilize cloud-based conferencing technology, such as Cisco-based platforms and Microsoft 365.
Qualifications
  • Education: A high school diploma, plus a minimum of six months of workplace experience for Judicial Clerk, or two years of related experience, including 18 months of directly related experience as a Judicial Clerk, for Senior Judicial Clerk.
  • Experience: Related experience, including experience as a Court or Counter Clerk, administrative role in a Courthouse, legal environment, office administration, and customer service.
  • Assets: Experience as a Judicial Clerk or Legal Assistant/Paralegal, Legal Assistant or Paralegal Certificate or Diploma, experience with CASES, JOIN, or FTR, and experience using cloud-based conferencing technology.
Working Conditions

This position may require the successful candidate to obtain a Non-Presiding Justice of the Peace appointment and a Commissioner for Oath appointment. Canadian citizenship is required for the Non-Presiding Justice of the Peace appointment.

Candidates may be tested to confirm proficiency and accuracy with basic keyboarding skills, with a minimum 35 words per minute typing speed required.
