Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Estimator to lead our estimating team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing estimating strategies, managing bid priorities, and ensuring the quality of bids.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management
    • Supervise a team of estimators to ensure timely and accurate completion of bids
    • Implement, revise, and update data banks to optimize estimating processes
    • Manage bid priorities to align with the company's strategic direction
    • Establish the bidding schedule to meet project deadlines
    • Assess workload to ensure efficient resource allocation
    • Identify risks and constraints associated with tenders
    • Develop subcontracting strategies to ensure cost-effectiveness
    • Confirm costs related to quantities prepared by estimators
    • Lead file transfer meetings to operations when contracts are awarded
    • Prepare bid reviews to ensure quality and accuracy
    • Establish lasting relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
    • Participate in meetings for the start-up of service offers and follow-up executive meetings
    • Liaise, communicate, and meet deadlines with stakeholders
    • Ensure compliance with ISO processes
    • Participate in the closing of bids
    • Stay informed about upcoming projects to plan workload
  • Human Capital Management
    • Mentor and coach team members to develop their skills and knowledge
    • Actively participate in the career development of team staff by providing training and setting development goals
    • Identify, attract, retain, and utilize top talent
    • Mentor and develop staff and the next generation in project management
  • Strategic Planning
    • Focus on strengths to achieve strategic objectives
    • Ensure follow-up of actions targeted at the strategic level
    Requirements
    • Hold a bachelor's degree in civil or construction engineering and/or a combination of equivalent experience & training
    • Be a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC
    • Have a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in estimating major projects and/or urban works
    • Strong communication skills
    • Have relevant experience in carrying out large-scale projects of more than $30 million

    • Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, and TPL or other estimation software
