POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Community Counsellor-Rover at Tamir Foundation, you will be instrumental in assisting participants in reaching their personal aspirations, ensuring their health and wellness, and cultivating skills that align with their individual interests and requirements.

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, your role will involve delivering daily assistance to individuals in their residences or community settings, in accordance with Tamir's core principles and the Quality Enhancement (QE) initiative.

  • Participant Engagement and Advocacy
  • Establish respectful and constructive relationships with participants
  • Understand participants' histories, strengths, and preferences to collaboratively develop and implement Personal Outcome Plans (POPs)
  • Keep all relevant parties informed of participant developments and address any concerns swiftly
  • Advocate for the inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities within the community
  • Facilitate participation in cultural and religious events
  • Assist with personal care, medication management, and financial oversight
  • Promote mental and physical health while ensuring a secure environment
  • Encourage participants to pursue their interests and build support networks
  • Advocate for necessary adjustments in support to aid goal attainment
  • Empower individuals to make informed choices while safeguarding their well-being

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Comply with Tamir policies, applicable legislation, and health and safety regulations
  • Maintain precise documentation and report any issues promptly
  • Ensure current training and adherence to security protocols
  • Support program staff and volunteers through training and orientation

Additional Responsibilities/Details

  • Willingness to work varied shifts and locations as required
  • Adhere to shift limits and mandatory rest periods
  • Availability for on-call responsibilities and responsive communication
  • Manage sick leave and vacation days within established parameters
  • Assigned to a base supervisor for guidance and management
  • Guaranteed regular days off with the possibility of trading
  • Compensated for a minimum of 40 hours, with additional on-call premiums available
  • Job requirements may adapt to meet program needs

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Staff may encounter various responsibilities including:

  • Supporting individuals with behavioral challenges
  • Potential exposure to illnesses
  • Physical tasks such as lifting and assisting with mobility
  • Operating a vehicle and working independently

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • DSW, OR
  • Degree/Diploma in Social Sciences or a related field, plus 1 year of relevant experience OR
  • High school diploma and 2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities

Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License with a clean record
  • CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Prevention Training (preferred)
