Overview

The City of New York is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Surveyor (Architectural). This role is integral to the Asset Information Management System (AIMS) program, which is overseen by the Mayor's Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting thorough condition assessments of various City-owned structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed inspections of both the interior and exterior components of buildings, including facades, roofs, windows, and structural elements.
  • Document existing conditions and evaluate the necessary repairs and replacements, along with estimating the remaining lifespan of building components.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary survey team comprising an Architect, Electrical Engineer, and Mechanical Engineer.
  • Conduct site visits to an average of 2 to 3 buildings daily, followed by dedicated time for report preparation.
  • Prepare comprehensive facility assessment reports to assist in budget planning for sponsors.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess a valid New York State Registration as an Architect and have a minimum of six (6) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work, including at least two (2) years in an administrative capacity.

Preferred Skills

Ideal candidates will have a robust understanding of building construction techniques, materials, and assemblies, particularly in relation to historical structures from the 19th and 20th centuries. Expertise in diagnosing deterioration and failure issues is highly valued. A minimum of five years of relevant field inspection experience is required. Candidates should be physically capable of conducting site visits, including navigating stairs, rooftops, and confined spaces. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with a valid motor vehicle driver's license.
