Group Manager, South Coast Permitting and Planning Job Description

The Opportunity:

WSP Global Inc. is currently seeking a Group Manager to oversee our South Coast Permitting and Planning division, which is a key part of the Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment (EcoEIA) sector in British Columbia. Reporting directly to the Director of EcoEIA, this position encompasses both leadership of a team exceeding 25 professionals and the provision of high-level technical and project management expertise to facilitate a diverse array of projects, varying in scope and complexity.

You will be part of a dynamic team of regulatory experts, biologists, socio-economists, and project managers located in the South Coast region of British Columbia. As the Group Manager, you will be instrumental in achieving our strategic goals and further developing our ecology-related services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish a safe and positive workplace culture for team members.
  • Exhibit an unwavering commitment to health and safety protocols.
  • Support project managers and assume leadership responsibilities, including:
    • Evaluating cost estimates and other client deliverables within your assigned delegation of authority.
    • Assisting team members in prioritizing and organizing their tasks to meet utilization targets and project deadlines.
    • Guiding team members in their career progression and performance, including mentorship opportunities.
  • Engage in human resources activities throughout the year, including performance evaluations, recruitment, and onboarding processes.
  • Collaborate with the EcoEIA Director and Vice President to ensure the financial success of the team by monitoring financial performance and implementing necessary improvements.
  • Communicate company policies and directives to the Permitting and Planning team and oversee their implementation as needed.
  • Encourage collaboration across the EcoEIA team and other WSP business lines.
  • Inspire team commitment to WSP's Guiding Principles and Vision.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to project managers within the Permitting and Planning team.
  • Participate in business development initiatives to enhance the growth of the Permitting and Planning team and strengthen client relationships.
  • Lead monthly meetings for the Permitting and Planning team.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree (minimum undergraduate) in environmental or natural sciences, environmental engineering, or related fields.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a consulting environment focused on ecological project delivery.
  • Professional registration (R.P.Bio, P.Ag, RPP, etc.) within British Columbia.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse teams and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong business acumen and experience in financial management, including budget development, tracking, and forecasting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Exceptional project management capabilities, with the ability to oversee multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated success in team leadership and management, emphasizing a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety leadership.
  • Dedication to technical excellence, with the ability to draft proposals and technical reports.

Compensation:

Salary Range (in British Columbia): $99,500 - $164,200. The final salary for this role may vary based on factors such as relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and organizational needs.
