Fleet Operations Manager

Position Overview

The Fleet Operations Manager is responsible for optimizing profitability and enhancing return on investment by achieving strategic objectives, serving clients, maintaining organizational stability, and driving growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate and implement strategies to achieve cost, quality, service, and reliability targets outlined in the maintenance framework.
  • Assess, analyze, and adjust fleet and equipment operations to maximize investment returns and control expenses. Evaluate capacity and utilization to streamline operations. Determine equipment and fleet needs and manage programs to leverage volume and minimize costs as necessary.
  • Oversee leases, contracts, and administration for fleet service providers. Ensure compliance with corporate standards and foster ongoing relationships. Regularly update relevant stakeholders on contract costs, risks, and performance metrics.
  • Prepare status reports and program outcomes for senior leadership and provide recommendations for program, policy, and/or contract modifications. Play a pivotal role in addressing all safety concerns related to fleet and equipment usage.
  • Design and implement training programs for technicians.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure effective support solutions are established.
  • Lead and align operational teams to guarantee fleet reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
  • Develop region-specific strategic initiatives to enhance fleet performance.
  • Identify and spearhead actions to address field business challenges and opportunities.
  • Engage with industry peers, professional organizations, government and non-government entities, trade associations, and academic institutions to integrate best practices.
  • Contribute positively to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable work environment, free from discrimination, bullying, and harassment.
  • Execute all responsibilities in accordance with company policies and procedures as updated periodically.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Proficient negotiation abilities.
  • Knowledgeable about Commercial Drivers Licensing requirements.
  • Familiar with Commercial Truck registration regulations in Canada, including various provinces.
  • Strong interpersonal and partnership-building skills with clients, operations, and external suppliers.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information; collect and analyze data; leverage intuition and experience to enhance data; design workflows and procedures.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma is mandatory.
  • A Bachelor's degree, MBA, or advanced degree is advantageous.
  • Over 10 years of experience in the fleet industry.
  • More than 15 years of experience in technical team leadership.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
  • Flexibility in work schedules is essential.
  • Availability for on-call duties at various times.
  • Typical work settings include both indoor office environments and maintenance facilities overseeing a team of mechanics.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required as per specific tasks.
  • Minimal travel requirements outside the project scope.
