Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Residence Worker, Part-Time to join our team at WJS Canada. As a key member of our residential care team, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to individuals with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, set goals, and plan individual program plans and personal service plans for residents, documenting and implementing program evaluation.
  • Provide life skills training, including meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills, and personal finance, implementing personal service plans.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, such as feeding, lifting, transfers, hygiene, grooming, and toileting, including transfer of function duties such as gastrostomy feeding, tracheostomy management, and suction and bowel management as required.
  • Participate in various client-focused activities in accordance with care plans, recognizing, analyzing, and dealing with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behavior to ensure no harm comes to the resident and/or the public.
  • Administer medication to residents in accordance with established policy and procedures, assisting with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to residents and their families, transporting and assisting residents to appointments, shopping, or leisure activities, operating motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting clients or on WJS business.
  • Maintain reports such as statistics, logbooks, and daily activities relating to residents, identifying social, economic, recreational, and educational services in the community that will meet clients' needs, maintaining liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community.
  • Utilize practices that promote health, welfare, safety, and security of persons served, participating in the OHS Committee as required, performing miscellaneous job-related duties as required.
Requirements
  • A certificate, diploma, or degree in one of the humanities, social work, or related field, or other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of one year recent related experience in a community-based setting, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Previous experience with operating a licensed home and trauma-informed practice, training in substance use, and training/work experience dealing with sexually intrusive behaviors are assets.
  • Familiarity with Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Employment First initiatives, valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates, valid BC Driver's License and clean driver's abstract, Mandt and/or Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate, and Conflict Resolution Certificate are required.
  • Positive behavior supports experience, clear physician's note confirming suitability, including a negative tuberculosis screening test, and successful candidate must sign an oath of confidentiality, a conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols, and a code of ethics statement.

WJS adheres to provincial/legislated communicable disease prevention protocols. Some of our community healthcare providers/stakeholders may require WJS employees to be vaccinated in order to enter establishments while supporting WJS individuals/clients in service.
