Residence Support Specialist

WJS Canada is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residence Support Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing support and guidance to individuals within our residential program.

  • Your Responsibilities:
    • Collaborate with the team to assess individual needs, set goals, and develop personalized care plans. Contribute to program evaluation efforts to ensure continuous improvement.
    • Deliver life skills training encompassing meal preparation, housekeeping, personal hygiene, and financial management.
    • Assist residents with daily living activities such as feeding, mobility assistance, bathing, grooming, and toileting.
    • Administer medication according to established protocols and procedures.
    • Offer emotional support and constructive feedback to residents and their families.
    • Maintain a clean and organized living environment by performing light housekeeping and maintenance tasks.
    • Research and identify community resources such as social services, educational opportunities, and recreational activities.
    • Prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals under your care by adhering to best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a certificate, diploma, or degree in a relevant field such as social work, psychology, or human services.
  • Have at least one year of recent experience working in a community-based setting with individuals facing similar challenges.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Experience operating a licensed home and implementing trauma-informed practices.
  • Training in substance use is highly beneficial.
  • Previous experience handling sexually intrusive behaviors is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Employment First initiatives.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates.
  • A valid BC Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Mandt and/or Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and Conflict Resolution Certificate.
  • Experience with positive behavior supports.

Other Requirements:

  • Provide a physician's note confirming your suitability for the role, including a negative tuberculosis screening test result.
  • Successfully complete an oath of confidentiality, conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols training, and code of ethics agreement.
