Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Leader to join our team at Veolia. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing health and safety activities to ensure a safe working environment for our employees and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular site audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on health and safety procedures and protocols.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, and develop recommendations for prevention and mitigation.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure health and safety is integrated into all aspects of our business.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and stakeholders to ensure compliance and effective communication.
Requirements
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a related health and safety role within an industrial facility and/or regulated environment.
  • JHSC Certification Part 1 & 2.
  • Prior experience in an industrial process facility is a definite asset.
  • First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, Respiratory Protective Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment, Aerial Lift, and Emergency Response training certifications are required.
  • Possess and maintain current and valid Health and Safety Designation issued from an accredited organization within Canada such as CRSP or equivalent.
  • Post-Secondary Education in Occupational Health & Safety or Industrial Hygiene.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, especially the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Code, and Regulations.
  • Intermediate level computer skills to operate MS Office Suite (especially Outlook, Excel, and Word) and program-specific software.
  • Ability to work on-call and outside of regular business hours as the facility is operational 24/7.
  • Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills to facilitate working effectively with a wide range and number of people, including peers and managers, employees, and other departments, divisions, and management within all levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership and communication (both verbal and written) skills to facilitate and promote open discussions, and to effect pro-active management on a daily basis.
  • Effective time management, decision-making, and planning and organizing skills.
  • Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within a fast-paced environment with changing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proven organizational and creative-problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Ability to complete all conditions of employment including criminal record check, negative alcohol and drug test, current and clean Class 5 driver's license, pre-employment medical, immunizations, and background check.
