About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Infrastructure Specialist to join our team at Canadian National Railway. As a key member of our Information & Technology (I&T) team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the availability, stability, and performance of our network and telecom infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute installations/upgrades, configuration, and maintenance of the networking infrastructure.
  • Review and approve change controls to ensure seamless network operations.
  • Quality review of infrastructure changes and implementations to guarantee optimal network performance.
  • Lead "Life cycle projects" initiatives, analyzing, testing, and deploying new technologies to enhance network capabilities.
  • Investigate and resolve complex network issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum network availability.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks to prevent network outages and ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitor and maintain system availability and performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and implement process improvements, enhancing network efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Create and maintain operational documentation, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for network operations.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting, vulnerability, and bug corrections with vendors to ensure network security and integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable CN IT standards, maintaining the highest level of network security and integrity.
  • Train and coach team members on new capabilities and upcoming technology trends, promoting knowledge sharing and expertise.
  • Automate and optimize support tasks, streamlining network operations and improving efficiency.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent, with a focus on Telecommunications.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT, with a minimum of 3+ years of demonstrated expertise in providing hands-on technical support within large corporate environments.
  • Expertise in LAN/WAN technologies, IPAM, and Datacenter technologies (Leaf and spine technology).
  • Knowledge and troubleshooting skills in EIGRP, IS-IS, BGP, MP-BGP, MPLS, redistribution between different routing protocols.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP stack, IPv4, TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, GRE, IPSEC, ESP, NAT, DHCP, DNS, FHRPs, QoS, SNMP, Tacacs, Radius.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Wi-Fi networks, including Cisco Prime, WLCs, APs, ISE, and related technologies.
  • Experience/knowledge in SD-WAN solutions and cloud solutions (Google, Azure).
  • Experience and knowledge in operations and optimization of IP networks.
  • Good understanding of communications media (fibre, copper, wireless) and structured cabling best practices.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Cisco CCNP/CCIE Certification or equivalent knowledge.
Assets
  • Scripting skills (network automation)
  • Knowledge of Firewall (Juniper and Palo Alto)
  • Experience with cellular solutions, including APN, CDMA, GSM, HSPA, UMTS, GPRS/EDGE, LTE, and others.
  • Experience with Nokia 7750, 7705, and 7210 platforms.
  • Experience in building business cases and providing estimates.
