About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Specialist, Orientation and Mobility to join our team at Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada. As a key member of our rehabilitation services team, you will work closely with individuals who are blind or partially sighted, providing expert guidance and support to help them develop the skills and confidence they need to navigate their daily lives.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the orientation and mobility needs of individuals with vision loss
- Develop and implement personalized training plans to help individuals acquire the skills and confidence they need to navigate their daily lives
- Provide expert guidance and support to individuals with visual impairments, including teaching concept development, spatial and sensory awareness, pre-cane skills, cane techniques, and travel skills
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to rehabilitation
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advances and technologies in orientation and mobility, and incorporate this knowledge into your practice
- Graduate of the Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired Program (Mohawk College) or Diploma in Specialized Studies, O&M and Vision Rehabilitation (University of Montreal)
- ACVREP Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
