Job Title: Specialist, Orientation and Mobility

Are you passionate about empowering individuals with vision loss to regain their independence and mobility? Do you have a strong background in orientation and mobility, with a focus on providing training and support to individuals with visual impairments?

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Specialist, Orientation and Mobility to join our team at Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada. As a key member of our rehabilitation services team, you will work closely with individuals who are blind or partially sighted, providing expert guidance and support to help them develop the skills and confidence they need to navigate their daily lives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the orientation and mobility needs of individuals with vision loss
  • Develop and implement personalized training plans to help individuals acquire the skills and confidence they need to navigate their daily lives
  • Provide expert guidance and support to individuals with visual impairments, including instruction on the use of electronic travel aids and other assistive technologies
  • Liaise with community-based rehabilitation teams, agencies, schools, and partners to ensure seamless delivery of services
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care and support to individuals with vision loss
Requirements:
  • Graduate of the Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired Program (Mohawk College) or Diploma in Specialized Studies, O&M and Vision Rehabilitation (University of Montreal)
  • ACVREP Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good command of relevant computer applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
