Job Title: Specialist, Orientation and Mobility

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Specialist, Orientation and Mobility to join our team at Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada.

Job Summary:

This is a full-time, permanent position that requires a graduate of the Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired Program or a Diploma in Specialized Studies, O&M and Vision Rehabilitation. The successful candidate will possess ACVREP Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. As a Specialist, Orientation and Mobility, you will work closely with individuals with vision loss, providing training and support to help them develop the skills and confidence they need to navigate their daily lives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments and develop personalized orientation and mobility plans for individuals with vision loss.
  • Teach concept development, spatial awareness, and travel skills to individuals with vision loss.
  • Provide support and guidance to individuals with vision loss and their families, promoting independence and confidence.
  • Collaborate with community-based rehabilitation teams, agencies, and stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in orientation and mobility techniques and technologies.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of the Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired Program or a Diploma in Specialized Studies, O&M and Vision Rehabilitation.
  • ACVREP Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
