The Opportunity
The Infrastructure Department consists of five branches, including three Design and Construction branches, the Wastewater Operations branch, and the Water Operations branch. Core responsibilities encompass the management and upkeep of the City's environmental infrastructure and systems, which include water supply, treatment, and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; as well as the design and construction of essential infrastructure such as treatment facilities, pump stations, roads, sewers, water mains, sidewalks, stormwater management ponds, water towers, and reservoirs.

Under the supervision of an Operator-in-Charge (OIC), the Water Works Operator role involves assisting with the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of equipment related to drinking water treatment, distribution, and customer service. This position also supports the receipt of operational and maintenance supplies. The operator identifies issues and executes basic process adjustments within the drinking water treatment and distribution systems. Additionally, responsibilities include obtaining samples, conducting tests, assisting in the evaluation and response to non-compliant water quality reports, and performing inspections, repairs, and cleaning of satellite drinking water facilities.

Education
(degree/diploma/certifications)
Two (2) year College Diploma in Environmental Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology Two (2) valid Drinking Water System Operator-in-Training (OIT) Certificates from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) If you do not meet the outlined credentials but possess relevant experience, please refer to the City's Education Equivalency Policy to assess potential qualification for equivalency. Experience
Six (6) months of experience in roles related to the major responsibilities within a drinking water system environment
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
General understanding of water treatment, distribution, and supply processes
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet usage
