The Opportunity
The Infrastructure Department consists of five branches, including three Design and Construction branches, the Wastewater Operations branch, and the Water Operations branch. Core responsibilities encompass the operation and upkeep of the City's environmental infrastructure and systems, which include water supply, treatment, and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; as well as the design and construction of the City's infrastructure, such as treatment facilities, pumping stations, roads, sewers, water mains, sidewalks, stormwater management ponds, water towers, and reservoirs.

Under the supervision of an Operator-in-Charge (OIC), the Water Works Operator role involves assisting with the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of equipment within the drinking water treatment and distribution systems, as well as customer service operations. This position also supports the receipt of operational and maintenance supplies. Responsibilities include identifying issues and making basic process adjustments to the drinking water treatment and distribution systems. Additionally, this role entails obtaining samples, conducting tests, assisting with the evaluation and response to reports of non-compliant water quality, and performing inspections, repairs, and cleaning of satellite drinking water facilities.

Education:
  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Environmental Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Two (2) valid Drinking Water System Operator-in-Training (OIT) Certificates from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC)

Experience:
  • Six (6) months of experience performing duties related to the aforementioned key responsibilities within a drinking water system environment
Knowledge/Skill/Ability:
  • General understanding of water treatment, distribution, and supply processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet navigation
Conditions of Employment:
  • Medical documentation confirming fitness to wear a respirator
  • Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License in good standing
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check*
