Position Overview:
Alberta Health Services is in search of a dedicated Family Counsellor to deliver comprehensive family-centered evaluations and interventions for families of youth engaged in addiction and mental health services. In this role, you will provide direct client engagement, including assessment, treatment planning, and case management, all rooted in a family systems approach. Ideal candidates will be equipped to offer a variety of evidence-based interventions that encompass both brief and intensive therapy, experiential learning, and individual as well as group therapy (both psychoeducational and process-oriented). Effective referral and transition planning are essential components of success in this position. Collaboration with other addiction and mental health professionals within the clinic is crucial, as you will provide consultation and enhance capacity in the family systems domain. Participation in case discussions, program development, evaluation, and some clinical supervision regarding family systems interventions is also expected. Furthermore, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong collaboration skills, recognizing the importance of partnerships with community stakeholders and service providers, and the ability to coordinate service delivery with other health services and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Family Counsellor, your duties will include:
- Conducting assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-ups for clients and their families.
- Providing clinical consultation with other programs or community resources.
- Acting as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health initiatives within the community.
- Collaborating with healthcare providers and community service organizations to ensure a seamless continuum of care.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of a Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work (clinical specialization), Occupational Therapy, Nursing, or Psychiatric Nursing, with training in mental health assessment and psychotherapy. Candidates must be active or eligible for registration with the relevant regulatory college.
Additional Qualifications:
A minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field is required. Candidates must possess qualifications to perform psychosocial interventions and have education and training in Family Systems work. Registration with a professional regulatory body as defined by the Health Professionals Act is necessary. Experience in community addiction or mental health settings, particularly with children, youth, and their families, is essential. Knowledge and skills in family systems frameworks, assessment, goal setting, and treatment using evidence-based methods are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
A master's degree in counselling psychology is preferred. Additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) is advantageous. Experience with psychological assessments and collaboration with various community agencies is also beneficial.
