Lead FX Artist

Job Summary:
The Lead FX plays a pivotal role within the show, responsible for managing sequences and overseeing the artists assigned to those sequences. As a key member of the leadership team, they contribute significantly to defining the quality and style of the show, working closely with the Effects Supervisor to achieve creative goals. Moreover, effective communication and collaboration with the pipeline team to address and resolve pipeline issues are integral aspects of this role.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement department standards, workflow, and techniques to ensure consistency and efficiency.
• Mentor and guide artists in advancing their work towards asset/shot approval, providing constructive feedback and support.
• Collaborate with team members in an advisory role, sharing knowledge and expertise to resolve complex issues.
• Work closely with the artist to ensure they address notes, respect briefs, and meet deadlines.
• Assist the supervisor in designing and improving the workflow to optimize productivity and quality.
• Communicate with the pipeline team to resolve any issues and ensure seamless integration.
• Collaborate with the supervisor to address any issues or potential problems that may arise.
• Apply direct and procedural animation techniques to create a variety of effects, simulating natural phenomena.
• Maintain quality control with the team, ensuring high standards are met.
• Create and compose 3D effects elements, working closely with the production team to achieve the desired look.
• Develop and communicate animation timing for effects, ensuring synchronization and coherence.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in fine arts or animation, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of production experience in film or television effects.
• Thorough knowledge of 3D effects and simulation techniques, including Houdini.
• Compositing experience is highly desirable, as is experience with programming Vex.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey creative and technical ideas effectively.
• Ability to follow directions, prioritize tasks, and thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
• Strong team player with a passion for collaboration and problem-solving.
