As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program across all our enterprises.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Execute OHS Programs
    • Develop and execute effective procedures to enhance the OHS program, reviewing it annually and identifying policies and procedures needing revision or development.
    • Solicit input for changes to policies and procedures at all levels of the organization.
    • Communicate and implement changes in collaboration with senior management.
  • Monitor Compliance and Provide Feedback
    • Monitor compliance with policies and procedures and provide feedback to senior management.
    • Evaluate health and safety practices and procedures for risk assessment and following legal guidelines.
  • Provide Training and Support
    • Provide hazard identification training and ensure consistent data collection.
    • Provide monthly analysis for inspection reports.
    • Participate in each location's inspections annually or as needed.
  • Investigate Incidents and Provide Recommendations
    • Participate with managers and supervisors to conduct investigations to find causes and take preventive measures for further incidents.
    • Provide recommendations for preventing or eliminating risks/hazards.
    • Identify trends in incidents and communicate with senior managers.
  • Manage OHS Program Administration
    • Administer the Return-to-Work Program—ensure that employees who have taken leave due to illness or injury return and integrate successfully into the Company.
    • Provide support to managers and employees regarding WSCC processes.
    • Ensure WSCC claims are captured in the incident management database and provide support to management and employees as needed.
  • Develop Training Needs and Standards
    • Identify gaps and recommend OHS training.
    • Develop the organization's annual training needs to ensure compliance with legislation and company standards.
    • Develop a standard for new hire orientation outlining the Company's high expectations regarding OHS.
  • Communicate with Regulatory Agencies
    • Represent the organization and act as the point person for communication with regulatory agencies.
    • Communicate and interact with provincial and federal agencies requiring deliverable reporting, including WSCC and Emergency Services.
  • Stay Informed and Apply Expertise
    • Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to the organization.
    • Apply expertise to assess risk and solve problems of varying tasks.
    • Review and lead risk assessments for new projects and enforce preventative measures.
  • Support Senior Management
    • Support senior management on various safety issues that impact the wider industry group.
    • Participate in project start-up meetings and understand the scope of work on projects.
  • Provide Reports and Coaching
    • Providing reports to management/senior management/human resources on OH&S issues.
    • Provide direct OHS coaching to the site JOSH committees, management, and employees.
  • Manage Site Docs System
    • Manage the Site Docs System and ensure completion of corrective actions that are raised.
    • Link the corrective action accident investigation and root cause analysis process so managers can review accident data and trends.
  • Establish KPIs and Conduct Audits
    • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project safety performance.
    • Regular assessments and audits are conducted to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Mentor and Train Staff
    • Mentor, train, and support the career development of junior to senior staff involved in OHS.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related fields.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in safety management.
  • Skills and Certifications
    • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of an OHS program on projects of increasing complexity.
    • Relevant professional certifications or memberships (e.g., CRSP, CRST) are advantageous.
  • Personal Qualities
    • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Ability to freely access all points of a work site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
    • Able to successfully communicate with all levels of the organization.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
    • Strong work ethic—willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
    • Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed.
