Unit Overview

The Musculoskeletal Oncology Rehabilitation unit specializes in the care of inpatients facing orthopedic and neuro-oncology challenges, along with complex medical issues. This unit primarily caters to geriatric patients who require a structured rehabilitation period before their discharge from the hospital. Typically, patients engage in the rehabilitation program for a duration of 15 to 21 days, with discharge contingent upon achieving specific rehabilitation goals.

Position Overview

As an integral member of the healthcare team on M2, the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for assessing and delivering nursing care tailored to the needs of predominantly senior patients experiencing orthopedic conditions. This role involves close collaboration with Registered Nurses and other interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to enhance the functional objectives of patients.

Work Schedule

Flexibility is required for weekdays, weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights.

Qualifications

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nursing of Ontario as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Proven expertise in Rehabilitation Nursing.
  • Familiarity with outcome measurement tools, such as the Functional Independence Measure.
  • Experience with a Primary Nursing Model of Care.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary care and a professional nursing practice model.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Recent clinical experience (within the last 2 years) with rehabilitation, geriatric, surgical, or orthopedic patient populations.
  • Skills in pain management, enteral and parenteral nutrition, complex wound care, and vascular access.
  • Successful completion of the Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) workshop.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), teamwork, problem-solving, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Meditech.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of TLC protocols (transfer/lifts for caregivers).
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.

As a condition of employment, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to be submitted to Employee Health Services.
