Traffic Management Technologist

This role is centered around delivering client-oriented services to both internal and external stakeholders concerning traffic management, infrastructure maintenance, and roadway systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Regional Traffic Management Centre, ensuring optimal signal timings, service levels, and control areas for intersections.
  • Administer the Region's Traffic Engineering Software (TES).
  • Oversee the annual transportation initiatives of the Region, including the collection of traffic data and management of traffic hardware.
  • Perform operational and safety evaluations of traffic (including collision analysis) to improve the safety and functionality of Regional Roads.
  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of the Region's Synchro network model.
  • Support the implementation of the Region's Comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan (CROSAP).
  • Draft and prepare reports related to safety and traffic operations for Council review.
  • Evaluate warrants for traffic control devices.
  • Examine design documents and Project Health Management (PHM) for construction and engineering tenders as well as proposed developments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on external projects.
  • Update and maintain elements of Regional traffic and parking bylaws.
  • Carry out other assigned responsibilities as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma in Transportation Engineering Technology.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of pertinent experience in traffic operations and safety.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Traffic Engineering principles, practices, and associated regulations, manuals, guidelines, and standards.
  • Skills should encompass analytical, organizational, project management, and customer service capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and GIS applications.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and familiarity with traffic monitoring in a Regional Traffic Management Center.
  • Proficiency in Synchro and experience with Traffic Engineering Software (TES).

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent may need to provide personal transportation on occasion.
  • This position may necessitate early morning (starting at 6:00 am) or late evening (finishing at 7:00 pm) work hours.

Employment Requirements

  • The incumbent will be required to operate a Regional vehicle and must provide a valid driver's license and a driver's abstract on their first day of employment.
