We are seeking a Policy Analyst to provide comprehensive support to the Forestry Division with policy development consistent with Government of Alberta processes and standards.

This position develops and maintains Forestry Division policies inventories, schedules policy development and review, and enhances policy capacity by supporting training for staff. This role also ensures consistent and timely alignment of Forestry Division policy development with departmental as well as government-wide policy development.

The Policy Analyst is influential in providing support and recommendation that advances the Department's goals through thorough planning and management, support and coordination on policy initiatives, project management services and research development and reporting. This position conducts and analyses studies as well as environmental scanning including reviewing provincial, national and international advancements for best forestry practices.

Providing policy development expertise for the Division, the Policy Analyst is instrumental in collaborating in committees, teams, and working groups to provide support and perspectives to ensure consistency and thoroughness of forest policy development. The position also supports stakeholder engagement in the development and review of policies as well as legislation.

Qualifications

University graduation (4 years) in Public policy, social sciences, public admin, business, or natural resources plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required
• Knowledge of current policy development and government procedures, including policy trends and best practices is required
• Awareness of natural resource management, specifically in forestry
• Knowledge and experience with Indigenous consultation, particularly in natural resource issues and policy development addressing Indigenous consultation issues
• Project planning and management skills to manage competing priorities with tight deadlines are preferred
• Registered professional status or a formal designation

This posting includes two positions: one is a full-time permanent opportunity, and the other is a temporary full-time role until January 2025. The positions hours of work are Monday to Friday, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., totaling 36.25 hours per week.
