Job Title: Senior Policy Analyst

About the Role

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled Senior Policy Analyst to join the Economics and Fiscal Policy Division. As a key member of the Policy and Strategic Services branch, you will provide professional analysis and advice on a wide range of fiscal and policy matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct fiscal and policy analysis on various policy-related issues, including short- and long-term fiscal projections and risks, interprovincial comparisons, and forecasting of various program areas.
  • Measure the performance of policies supported by programs from multiple ministries, providing expertise and insight on questions and outcomes being assessed.
  • Support participation in cross-ministry initiatives in social, economic, and environmental policy, and provincial-municipal fiscal matters.
  • Develop Alberta's negotiation strategy on federal-provincial issues with research, analysis, and advice.
  • Initiate and manage professional relations with counterparts within the Economics and Fiscal Policy Division, the Ministry, and across ministries on matters relating to policy analysis.
  • Support the development of budget chapters and fiscal updates by carrying out analysis, preparing briefing materials, and drafting sections and chapters of the budget documents.

Qualifications

University graduation in the social sciences, including training in economics, statistics, and research methods or a related field. A Master's Degree in Economics is preferred. Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible related experience preferably in economic analysis or policy development, or equivalent as described below.

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
