Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Production Operations to join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the production operations of our facility, ensuring that all manufacturing commitments and deliveries are met on time, and developing strategic plans for capacity improvement and utilization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Strategic Plans

Develop and manage strategic plans for capacity, efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement to ensure the optimal performance of our production operations.

Lead Production Operations

Supervise, coordinate, and direct daily production activities in alignment with site and corporate KPIs, ensuring that all production goals and objectives are met.

Represent the Production Department

Represent the production department during all regulatory and safety audits, as well as during client visits, to ensure that our operations are in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

Support Technical Issues

Support and offer advice on technical-related issues, troubleshoot problems, and initiate investigations to ensure that our production operations are running smoothly and efficiently.

Establish and Maintain Productive Working Relationships

Establish and maintain productive working relationships with subordinates, upper management, and other departments to ensure that our production operations are aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives.

Develop and Implement Departmental SOPs

Develop and implement departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory and corporate quality standards.

Ensure Compliance with Regulatory Standards

Ensure that all products are manufactured in compliance with Health Canada, FDA, or other global regulatory standards, as appropriate.

Develop and Evaluate Staff

Develop and evaluate staff to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively, and to identify areas for improvement and development.

Prepare Departmental Reports

Prepare monthly departmental reports, contribute to budget and capital expenditure preparations, and provide regular updates to management on production operations.

Requirements
  • Education

Minimum Bachelor's degree in Science or Chemical Engineering and/or Business required.

Experience

Minimum 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a minimum of 5 years of experience managing direct reports.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Exceptional Good Manufacturing Practices knowledge, demonstrated decision-making capabilities, proven ability to coach and develop staff, strong leadership, team building, and conflict resolution skills, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Working Conditions

The physical demands of this role include light physical effort and fatigue, walking, sitting, or standing for limited periods, and occasional equipment operation. The work environment is typically located in a comfortable indoor area, with occasional exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes, or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator, etc.
