Job Summary

Messer Americas is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of our Spec Gas production facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with internal requirements and government regulations, while building and managing a high-performance team focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety and Quality: Develop and maintain a safe and quality-focused operation, respecting and promoting Messer's safety objectives and driving initiatives to meet these goals.
  • Operations: Oversee all production-related activities, including planning, directing, and coordinating production, filling, and distribution activities, ensuring the maintenance of the facility and equipment is in good working order and compliant with internal and industry best practices.
  • Production: Schedule production to ensure on-time shipments, review product lead-time and cycle-time to develop goals, and manage supplies for the production department.
  • Coaching and Development: Coach, lead, and motivate plant employees, facilitate communication within the plant, and provide feedback in annual performance reviews.
  • Technical Process Improvements: Stay current on developments related to production processes, analytical methods, and government regulations affecting the product line and production process.
  • Budget and Financial Management: Prepare and manage the plant budget, analyze current financial and operational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and constraints to develop and implement goals, projects, and policies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemistry or applicable Science degree, Engineering degree
  • 10 years' management experience in the compressed gas (spec gas) industry or petrochemical
  • Prefer minimum 3 years' supervisory experience in a unionized environment
  • Operations/production/distribution management experience
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office is required, SAP preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is critical
  • Logistics and Transportation of Dangerous goods
  • Process systems knowledge and expertise; Experience in manometric and gravimetric blending techniques, and other common methods of gas blending and filling is preferred
  • Coaching
  • Ability to work with all staffing levels
  • Ability to supervise, problem solve, schedule work assignment, and motivate production personnel
