Key Responsibilities
RNs play a crucial role within the Pediatric Emergency Department, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. In this capacity, the RN is accountable for the care of pediatric patients, including delivering emergency interventions for resuscitation and stabilization, as well as trauma nursing for children. The department adheres to the principles of Family-Centered Care, catering to pediatric and adolescent patients and their families. Typical responsibilities include:
Conducting comprehensive nursing assessments, establishing nursing diagnoses, and implementing care plans while evaluating real and potential health issues in patients. Performing triage and prioritizing patient care utilizing advanced pediatric assessment techniques in accordance with established standards. Maintaining precise, thorough, and timely documentation of relevant health information, nursing assessments, interventions, evaluations, and communications in patient records. Educating patients and families, providing discharge instructions, and promoting health through various activities. Ensuring appropriate follow-up care within the broader healthcare community. Delivering nursing care to specialized patient populations in crisis situations, including those experiencing physical and sexual abuse, psychiatric issues, and substance-related emergencies.Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program with current registration as a Registered Nurse. A minimum of one (1) year of recent, relevant clinical experience in pediatrics or an Emergency Department setting. Preferred certifications in Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).Skills and Competencies
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively engage with children and their families. Experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary care team, serving as a nursing resource. Commitment to understanding and integrating the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action and related initiatives into practice. Dedication to fostering meaningful reconciliation efforts in Canada. Awareness of the social, economic, political, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous communities, along with familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism principles.What We Offer
