Key Responsibilities:

The Chief Audit Officer will serve as the principal executive for internal auditing within the organization. This position reports directly to the President & Chief Executive Officer and functionally to the Audit Committee of the Board. The individual will be responsible for leading, planning, executing, and reporting on all internal assurance engagements related to operational, financial, information technology, regulatory compliance, and other audits. The Chief Audit Officer may also provide consulting support for initiatives aligned with the organization's strategic objectives.

The role involves leading the Internal Audit Team to ensure that objectives are met collaboratively, in alignment with the company’s core values. The Chief Audit Officer will work closely with key leaders and managers across the organization to identify and develop opportunities for internal improvements that enhance overall effectiveness. This position aims to foster a positive workplace culture that maximizes employee engagement and collaboration across departments.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensuring that all audit work is conducted independently, impartially, and in a timely manner, with comprehensive support for findings and recommendations presented in clear reports.
  • Providing consulting and advisory services in governance, risk management, and controls to assist management in achieving its objectives.
  • Coordinating audit activities and resource allocation with key leaders and oversight functions to ensure comprehensive coverage and minimize redundancy.
  • Representing the internal audit function to relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Conducting special reviews as requested by Senior Leaders or the Audit Committee.
  • Setting the strategic direction for the internal audit function.
  • Developing enhancements to audit techniques that provide added value to the audit process.
  • Creating and executing a risk-based internal audit plan that aligns with the organization’s strategic goals and risk profile, subject to the approval of the Audit Committee of the Board.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • A Chartered Professional Accounting designation (CPA) is required.
  • An insurance designation (CIP) is an asset or enrollment in the program is preferred.
  • A minimum of three to five years of experience in a related role is required, with a preference for candidates with experience in insurance or financial institutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with electronic audit working paper systems are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in complex and high-pressure situations.
  • Capability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to present information persuasively and focus on key issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify critical issues effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound judgment are essential.
