About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Facilities Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Community College. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and special cleaning duties to maintain a safe and hygienic environment
  • Operate waxing and polishing machines, automatic scrubbers, and other equipment as required
  • Assist with routine painting duties, room rental setups, and other related tasks
  • Work collaboratively with the Facilities Manager to ensure seamless operations
  • Perform physical duties as required, including the operation of small hand tools and shop equipment

Requirements

  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum one year's experience as a cleaner, including experience with waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers
  • Custodial and/or maintenance experience in a post-secondary or commercial setting is an asset
  • Occupational experience in one or more of the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.) is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of people
  • Superior customer service skills, with the ability to create a relationship of trust beyond the immediate interaction
  • Strong team working skills, with the ability to contribute positively to a team environment
  • Specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in operating auto scrubbers, swing machines, and carpet extraction equipment, inventory control, performing audits, and 5S + S Inspections
  • Familiarity with and commitment to complying with OHS policies and procedures
  • Proven ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong commitment to excellence and lifelong learning
  • Ability to perform all physical duties of the job as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License
