Facilities Maintenance Assistant

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Facilities Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Community College. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our campus facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and special cleaning duties to maintain a safe and hygienic environment
- Operate waxing and polishing machines, automatic scrubbers, and other equipment as required
- Assist with routine painting duties, room rental setups, and other related tasks
- Work collaboratively with the Facilities Manager to ensure seamless operations
- Perform physical duties as required, including the operation of small hand tools and shop equipment
Requirements
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED)
- Minimum one year's experience as a cleaner, including experience with waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers
- Custodial and/or maintenance experience in a post-secondary or commercial setting is an asset
- Occupational experience in one or more of the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.) is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of people
- Superior customer service skills, with the ability to create a relationship of trust beyond the immediate interaction
- Strong team working skills, with the ability to contribute positively to a team environment
- Specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in operating auto scrubbers, swing machines, and carpet extraction equipment, inventory control, performing audits, and 5S + S Inspections
- Familiarity with and commitment to complying with OHS policies and procedures
- Proven ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong commitment to excellence and lifelong learning
- Ability to perform all physical duties of the job as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License
