About the Role:

The Licensed Practical Nurse is a vital member of our care team at Nicola Lodge Care Community, providing high-quality nursing care to our residents. As a LPN, you will work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to deliver exceptional care and support to our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care to residents in accordance with established policies, physician's orders, and resident care plans.
  • Utilize sound nursing practice principles to ensure delivery of excellent nursing and personal care in the assigned home area(s).
  • Ensure the safekeeping and control of medications and narcotics, and follow established protocols on all assigned shifts.
  • Create a comfortable and safe environment that promotes privacy, dignity, autonomy, independence, and individuality for our residents.
  • Optimize each resident's potential to achieve or maintain maximum functional ability.
  • Seek direction from the RN when resident needs exceed your experience or scope of practice.
  • Exercise sound nursing judgment by reporting any changes in resident status in a timely manner to the Registered Nurse as necessary, and take appropriate action.
  • Foster an atmosphere that is conducive to the provision of optimal care and the effective functioning of the assigned resident home area through collaboration with other team members.
  • Liaise with medical team members, nurse specialists, consultants, and support effective clinical care for all residents.
  • Continually assess your own nursing practice and learning needs.
  • Participate in and attend in-service programs provided by the community, as well as conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Document priorities, target dates, and strategies or interventions on the individualized care plan to achieve the best possible outcomes for each resident.
  • Work with the resident, family members, and interprofessional team to systematically collect data for the nursing history on admission, readmission, and change in status, and provide ongoing assessment and appropriate documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing.
  • Current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses BC.
  • Successful annual completion of RAI MDS certification as per Ministry of Health requirements for AIS.
  • Current First Aid with CPR.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants.
