Role Purpose:

The Youth & Family Life Coordinator is responsible for organizing and facilitating opportunities for spiritual growth and development for youth, children, and families within the Edmonton Temple Community and Family Services. This role involves promoting integrated mission initiatives with the church and Family Services, as well as providing programming and resources tailored for children, youth, and families.

This is a full-time position, requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development:
    • Collaborate with the Community Ministries Coordinator to design and promote youth programs for Community and Family Services clients.
    • Support the spiritual growth of children and youth through mentorship, encouragement, and the modeling of Christian values.
    • Create innovative programs aimed at fostering the spiritual development of youth and children.
    • Oversee and sustain programs relevant to youth and children within the church and the broader community.
    • Assist in evaluating youth and children’s programs within the church and Community and Family Services.
    • Develop, implement, and assess ministries relevant to children and families, including communication with leaders, resource acquisition, and volunteer recruitment and training.
    • Plan and lead engaging worship services, outreach initiatives, and discipleship programs, utilizing the ORANGE curriculum.
    • Organize and supervise activities for community and church children during school breaks and holidays.
    • Facilitate registration for Salvation Army camping programs and other regional events.
    • Follow up with participants of Salvation Army camp programs and their families to build lasting relationships.
    • Collaborate with Community & Family Services on school partnerships when applicable.
    • Provide guidance for various programs through church and community ministry.
    • Assist in the pastoral care and spiritual growth of children and families through mentorship and support.
    • Maintain accurate records and logs of activities, including reports and statistical data.
    • Support client registration for seasonal programs.
    • Engage with children and families outside of scheduled programming to foster trust and relationships.
    • Act as a liaison between church ministry and family services.
    • Strategize for youth ministries and future initiatives.
    • Plan events that promote integrated mission, connecting youth from the community with the church.
    • Represent The Salvation Army on relevant community youth committees as needed.
    • Engage with community partners to identify local youth and family resources.
    • May be required to transport children to and from camps and activities as necessary.
  • Volunteer Management:
    • Recruit, direct, and supervise volunteers for youth and children’s programs.
    • Ensure ongoing training and support for youth leaders and volunteers.
    • Address volunteer concerns and manage incident reports.
    • Prepare and maintain volunteer schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all program functions.
    • Ensure completion of necessary background checks and training for volunteers.
  • Financial and Administrative Duties:
    • Collaborate with the Corps Officer to maintain the annual budget, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources.
    • Maintain records and provide evaluations or statistical information as required.
    • Implement policies and procedures for youth ministries in partnership with the Corps Officer.
    • Perform administrative tasks that support program objectives.
    • Participate in youth networking and community meetings as required.
    • Actively engage in meetings with the Corps Officer.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of a post-secondary certificate or college diploma in a relevant field.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in children and youth programming, including leadership and volunteer management.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification or willingness to obtain and maintain certification.

Preferred Skills/Capabilities:

  • Self-motivated with effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Proficient in computer and social media applications.
  • Ability to articulate a clear vision for child and youth ministry.
  • A passion for the spiritual development of young people and a commitment to the Church.
  • Agreement with and commitment to promote sound Christian doctrine.
  • Willingness to participate fully in the life of the church.
  • Compliance with all Salvation Army policies and health and safety regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle required.
  • Background check with vulnerable sector screening required.
