Forensic Community & Liaison Nurse - Registered Nurse (RN)/ Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) at PHSA

Role Overview

As a Forensic Community & Liaison Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive psychiatric nursing assessments and care coordination for individuals with severe mental health challenges. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough biopsychosocial assessments to evaluate mental health status, physical health, and any special needs, ensuring all assessments comply with established policies.
  • Developing and implementing Integrated Treatment Plans (ITP) based on clinical evaluations, including risk assessments, and maintaining communication with the Regional Clinic Manager regarding client issues and legal matters.
  • Facilitating community case management and advocacy by coordinating with mental health teams, healthcare providers, and social services to ensure clients receive continuous and effective care.
  • Documenting client interactions and treatment plans accurately to meet regulatory standards and support clinical decision-making.
  • Providing nursing support and short-term follow-up services, including counseling and resource navigation for clients and their families.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A degree from an accredited School of Nursing and current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience working with individuals facing severe psychiatric conditions.
  • A valid driver's license for local travel.

Knowledge and Expertise

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A solid understanding of forensic psychiatric nursing practices and relevant nursing theories.
  • Familiarity with the standards of practice set by the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives.
  • Awareness of community resources and interdisciplinary roles in client care.
  • Knowledge of the Provincial Court system and relevant legislation.
  • Insight into psychopharmacology and its implications for client care.
  • A commitment to understanding and promoting reconciliation efforts in healthcare.
