About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent to join our team at PCL Constructors Canada Inc. in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Charlottetown, PEI, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure the implementation of PCL's safety program, integrating safety protocols into site plans and procedures.
  • Supervise and direct project teams, including direct and indirect reports, to ensure performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met.
  • Effectively communicate with site personnel, trades, and internal employees to ensure project goals are achieved.
  • Proactively manage potential problems, work interferences, and schedule conflicts to ensure project success.
  • Liaise with field engineers, estimators, and subcontractors to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications.
  • Liaise with clients, other site contractors, union representatives, and site and office personnel.
  • Develop and implement project schedules, identifying critical paths and anticipating constructability issues.
  • Create and maintain project plans, schedules, and resource-loaded three-week lookahead schedules.
  • Review and understand contracts and subcontracts, developing plans to mitigate risks and maximize opportunities.
  • Maintain project administration correspondence and comply with documentation requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman certificate or undergraduate degree in a related discipline.
  • NCSO designation required (IND); enrollment in the Gold Seal program (CDN) preferred. 5 years of progressive experience in field supervision preferred.
  • Successful supervision of a construction workforce.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction industry operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures.
  • Understanding of project scope and ability to apply basic engineering principles and embed solutions in construction plans and schedules.
  • Proficient understanding of scheduling software and ability to apply logic to build a plan.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple scopes of a construction project, including scheduling, monitoring, and coordinating own forces work and trade contractors.
  • Thorough understanding of productivity rates, Labor Cost Reports, and ability to interpret cost reports.
  • Ability to complete material, labor, and equipment takeoffs.
  • Thorough understanding of contract language and ability to identify and mitigate risks and identify and leverage opportunities.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety and environmental principles/procedures/legislation.
  • Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with clients, consultants, trades, own forces work, and internal employees.
  • Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and internal operational systems.
