Thompson Rivers University is seeking a qualified individual to teach the course SOCW 4500: Leadership Practice in Social Service Organizations in Fall 2024. This course is delivered face-to-face at the Kamloops campus.
About the CourseThis course provides students with a critical introduction to leadership in social service organizations, reviewing organizational theory and its application to government and non-profit organizations. Students explore key organizational skills necessary for effective leadership in organizations.
Course Objectives- Describe and critically summarize key organizational and leadership theories.
- Describe leadership principles and practices within diverse human service organizations.
- Analyze aspects of social service organizations to identify feminist models, egalitarian/consensus models, culturally diverse models, and their influence on leadership.
- Describe the social work leadership roles in relation to professional performance, staff evaluation, and supervision.
- Describe various aspects of professional practice in organizations, including role conflicts, ambiguities, and legal and ethical dilemmas.
- Describe social work leadership strategies for transformative change in organizations.

Qualifications- A Master's degree in Social Work is required, with a Doctorate in a relevant field and a graduate credential in Social Work preferred.
- Successful teaching experience in post-secondary institutions is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of professional experience working in a social work leadership capacity is required.
- An ability to demonstrate experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods is required.
- Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect are required.
- Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula, is required.
- Candidates must provide evidence of their ability to commit to creating time and space for relationships based on respect as human beings, supporting and embracing differences with kindness, love, and respect.
