Position Overview:
Located in a vibrant community, the District of West Vancouver is committed to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through dedicated public service. We are currently seeking a motivated individual to fill the role of Engineering Assistant I within our Engineering Department.
Role Responsibilities:
The Engineering Assistant I will undertake a variety of technical tasks under the supervision of the Transportation Engineer, including:
- Assessing and documenting sightline challenges related to vegetation growth;
- Gathering and evaluating data concerning roads, bike lanes, sidewalks, and multi-use pathways;
- Preparing responses to resident inquiries, requests, and complaints;
- Assisting with site inspections for infrastructure projects;
- Developing preliminary design concepts for review;
- Conducting initial assessments of traffic-related issues and reporting findings;
- Drafting construction notifications and street occupancy permits;
- Performing additional related duties as required.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in an Applied Science program at UBC or a comparable program at another institution. They should be available for a work term of 4 or 8 months and possess the following qualifications:
- Proven knowledge of civil engineering projects and construction practices;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Excel;
- Strong customer service abilities along with excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License;
- Access to a personal vehicle for commuting and site visits;
- Familiarity with AutoCAD is considered an asset.
Additional Requirements:
The selected candidate will be required to provide a Police Information Check and documentation of their qualifications.
Position Status:
This is a Union (WVMEA) temporary, full-time position.
Work Hours:
The role requires a commitment of 35 hours per week, with varying hours and days.
Compensation:
The hourly wage for this position is $26.87 (2022 Rates), plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
