Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Chief Technologist and Section Charge Technologist, you will carry out routine and specialized laboratory procedures.

Work Schedule: Evening shifts, 17:00 to 21:00, 14:00 to 21:00 (Rotating)

University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) stands as the largest Acute Care facility in the Northern Health region, serving as a central hub for specialized health services and a teaching hospital:

  • Facilitates undergraduate physician training through the Northern Medical Program, managed by the University of British Columbia and University of Northern British Columbia.
  • Hosts residents in UBC's Family Practice Residency Program.
  • Acts as a key clinical education site for nursing and various health sciences students at UNBC, the College of New Caledonia, BCIT, and other institutions.

Since 2001, UHNBC has seen nearly $100 million in enhancements, renovations, and new equipment:

  • Expansion of patient care with an upgraded emergency room and modernized ICU.
  • State-of-the-art maternal-child care center, including a single-room neonatal ICU.
  • Facilities designed to support undergraduate physician training.
  • New MRI unit.

UHNBC is also home to a cancer center for Northern BC, offering a comprehensive range of cancer treatments, including radiation therapy.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory technology program; R.T. (General).
  • Eligibility for certification from the Canadian Society of Laboratory Technologists.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, laboratory and hospital personnel, and medical staff.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy over extended periods.
  • Ability to stay updated on technological advancements in the field.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
