As a Biomedical Engineering Intern, you will collaborate with a diverse team within the CMC department, concentrating on the advancement of three-dimensional human tissues intended for in vitro pharmaceutical testing or as revolutionary, cell-based implantable tissue therapies. In this position, you will assist in the design, production, and evaluation of 3D human tissues for pre-clinical applications or as therapeutic devices by utilizing and modifying Aspect's microfluidic bioprinting technology. This role presents an exciting opportunity to work alongside engineers, cell biologists, and biomaterials specialists to create bioprinted tissues that have the potential to revolutionize medicine development and disease treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development, characterization, and validation of bioprinting methodologies and tissue devices for therapeutic purposes.
- Evaluate new microfluidic printheads and printer components to facilitate the processing of innovative biomaterials.
- Prepare and manage cells and biomaterials for bioprinting tissue development experiments.
- Conduct morphometric, mechanical, and stability assessments to characterize new bioprinted tissue implants.
- Execute in vitro assays to assess the health and functionality of bioprinted tissues, including machine learning training, cell viability staining, and ELISA techniques.
- Compile experimental reports and present findings to key stakeholders.
- Thoroughly document all activities, adhering to established documentation standards.
- Become proficient in Aspect's microfluidic bioprinting technology.
Candidate Profile
- Education: Currently enrolled in a biomedical engineering, cell biology, or related academic program.
- Development Experience: Possess a solid foundation in physics or mechanical engineering with a keen interest in microfluidics and 3D printing, along with familiarity in cell biology techniques and principles.
- Technical Skills: Experience in wet lab procedures, 3D printing, documentation/report writing, and cell culture.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to devise innovative solutions to complex challenges.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with active listening skills to engage diverse audiences.
- Attention to Detail: Strong focus on detail, experimental rigor, and process adherence, taking pride in delivering high-quality work.
- Proactive Attitude: Demonstrated urgency in achieving results, thriving in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and entrepreneurial environment.
