Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the TRU Director/Deputy Director, the selected candidate will review and authorize project notifications, amendments, variance applications, and construction plans pertaining to asbestos management in compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough evaluations of all regulatory notifications and applications to ensure adherence to applicable codes using a web-based system and various databases.
2. Perform pre-abatement and active abatement inspections for variance proposals to verify compliance with safety regulations.
3. Act as an emergency responder during citywide asbestos incidents, assisting in necessary remediation efforts.
4. Provide technical assistance and accurate information to the public regarding complex projects and regulatory developments.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution and one year of relevant full-time experience; or
2. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution along with a master's degree in mechanical engineering.

Preferred Skills:

  • Minimum of one year of full-time experience in mechanical engineering related to building systems and hazardous materials remediation.
  • Familiarity with building assessments for asbestos and relevant regulations in New York City.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to the public.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations from NYCDEP, NYCDOB, and federal standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Physical capability to navigate construction sites, including climbing stairs and ladders while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Ability to pass a medical examination and utilize respiratory protection as required.
