Position Overview

The Teaching Assistant II for the GCM 350 course in Graphic Communications plays a vital role in supporting the educational experience of students. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing student learning and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate discussions and provide tutoring support to students.
  • Supervise laboratory sessions and demonstrate the use of relevant equipment.
  • Assist students with project work in designated labs.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, including electronic consultations.
  • Support the grading process for tests, lab assignments, essays, and term papers.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions organized by the supervising instructor or administration.
  • Conduct invigilation duties during midterms and exams.
  • Engage in employer evaluation workshops or other required training.
  • Prepare educational materials, including written and audio-visual content.
  • Proctor tests, midterms, and quizzes.

Work Hours

Estimated total hours of work: 50.00 hours.
*Actual hours may vary based on qualifications and determined pay rate. Employees may work up to a maximum of 130 hours per semester or 390 hours per academic year. Employment is not guaranteed, and there is no compensation when not on assignment.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in the 4th year of the TMU Undergraduate Program.
  • Achieved an overall academic performance of B+ (3.3 GPA) or higher.
  • Completed the GCM 350 course with a minimum grade of B+ (3.3 GPA).
  • Previous performance evaluations as an Assistant at the University (if applicable).

Relevant Experience

  • Successful completion of GCM 350 with a minimum grade of 80%.
  • Proficient in the mathematical concepts utilized in GCM 350.
  • Strong understanding of the principles covered in GCM 350.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Passion for assisting fellow students.
  • Effective time management abilities.

Compensation

TA I - $36.39 per hour
TA II/External - $36.39 per hour
Master - $47.06 per hour
