Position Overview
The Teaching Assistant II for GCM 350 is responsible for supporting students in their learning journey within the Graphic Communications program. This role involves facilitating discussions, supervising laboratory sessions, and providing guidance on equipment usage and project work.
Key Responsibilities
- Tutor students and lead engaging discussions.
- Supervise laboratory sessions and demonstrate equipment usage.
- Assist students with project work in designated labs.
- Communicate effectively with students, including through electronic means.
- Support the grading process for tests, lab assignments, essays, and term papers.
- Attend mandatory training sessions provided by the supervising instructor or administration.
- Perform invigilation duties during midterms and examinations.
- Participate in employer evaluation workshops or other required training.
- Prepare written or audiovisual materials for instructional purposes.
- Proctor tests, midterms, and quizzes.
Work Hours
Estimated total hours of work: 50.00 hours. Actual hours may vary based on qualifications and determined pay rate. Employees may work up to a maximum of 130 hours per semester or 390 hours per academic year. Employment is not guaranteed, and there is no compensation when not on assignment.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in the 4th year of the TMU Undergraduate Program.
- Overall academic performance should be at B+ (3.3 GPA) or higher.
- Completion of the GCM 350 course with a minimum grade of B+ (3.3 GPA).
- Previous performance evaluations as an Assistant at the University (if applicable).
Relevant Experience
- Completion of GCM 350 with a minimum grade of 80%.
- Comfortable with the mathematical concepts used in GCM 350.
- Strong understanding of the principles applied in GCM 350.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Enjoys assisting and collaborating with fellow students.
- Demonstrates effective time management skills.
Compensation
TA I - $36.39 per hour
TA II/External - $36.39 per hour
Master - $47.06 per hour
