Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist II to join our team at Alberta Health Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our respiratory therapy services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the delivery of general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and monitored anesthesia care
  • Administer various anesthetics, medical gases, medications, blood and blood products, and crystalloid or colloid solutions
  • Assemble, operate, and monitor anesthetic gas machines
  • Perform invasive and non-invasive monitoring techniques, interpret results, and evaluate patient responses to interventions
  • Apply ultrasound as required for line placement, nerve block placement, or clinical assessment
  • Manage mechanical ventilation, including mode, adjunct, and oxygen changes, internal transport of ventilated and/or anesthetized patients
  • Conduct blood tests and interpretation, oxygen therapies, and airway management
  • Document patient care accurately, completely, clearly, and concisely
  • Communicate effectively with the surgeon, surgical team, and anesthesiologist
  • Recognize critical events and initiate supportive and corrective action
Requirements
  • Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA)
  • Graduation from a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy and successful completion of the National Respiratory Certification Exam
  • Current certifications in Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Peripheral Access Vascular Devise (PVAD) insertion, care, flushing, and removal
  • Completion of the Procedural Sedation (PS) qualification exam and medical administration skills checklist
  • Operating Room experience with completed competencies in intubation, arterial line insertion, and autologous transfusion
  • Experience in various services, including Women's Health, Thoracic, EBUS, Arthroplasty, Urology, Robotics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Trauma, Plastics, OMFS, Neurosurgery, Spine, Otolaryngology, and Ophthalmology
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Connect Care and interprofessional teams
